FRM® Exam Part I dates and fees 2027

Part I of the FRM® Exam runs in three windows in 2027: May, August and November. Exam dates, early and standard registration periods, scheduling deadlines, fees for enrolment, Part I and Part II, and how to choose a window you can be ready for.

Key facts

In 2027, Part I of the FRM® Exam runs in three windows: 8–13 May 2027 (check the official website), 13–14 August 2027 (check the official website) and 13–18 November 2027 (check the official website). For May 2027, Part I registration costs US$600 (check the official website) in the early period or US$800 (check the official website) in the standard period, plus a one-time enrolment fee of US$400 (check the official website) with your first registration. Every date and fee on this page was read on 30 October 2026 from dated secondary sources and links to GARP's own pages, which are the ones to rely on when you register. Two websites for candidates give the same three windows (Omni Finance Academy, exam dates (secondary source)) (300Hours, exam dates 2026–2027 (secondary source)).

The FRM® Exam is run by GARP (GARP, FRM Exam information). Each window has an early and a standard registration period and a separate deadline for booking your appointment. The fee you pay depends on when you register, so the dates matter as much as the window you pick.

When are the Part I exam windows and deadlines in 2027?

The sources we read disagree on when standard registration for November 2027 closes, so that cell links to GARP instead of giving a date. Registering and scheduling are separate steps: after you register, you still book your appointment by the last day to schedule.

Which windows can you still register for?

As of 30 October 2026:

How much does the FRM® Exam cost in 2027?

One-time enrolment fee (with your first Part I registration)US$400 (check the official website)
Part I registration, earlyUS$600 (check the official website)

Part II registration, earlyUS$600 (check the official website)
Part II registration, standardUS$800 (check the official website)

The sources we read give these fees for May 2027; check GARP's page before you register for a later window. For a first attempt at Part I you pay the enrolment fee, US$400 (check the official website), and the registration fee of the period you register in. A retake is a new registration; the enrolment fee is not paid again. The FRM® Exam cost calculator adds up Part I, Part II, retakes and a deferral in your currency.

Which window should you choose?

Choose the window you can be ready for. The careers website 300Hours recommends about 250 hours of study for Part I, spread over four to six months (300Hours, Part I study guide (secondary source)). That is a planning figure, not a requirement. Counting from Monday 2 November 2026, it means:

Weeks from 2 November 2026 to the first day of each window, and hours a week for 250 hours
WindowWeeksHours a week
May 2027269.6
August 2027406.3
November 2027534.7

These are averages with no week off. Starting now, May 2027 sits at the long end of that four-to-six-month range; August and November leave room for a slower pace or a later start. Without a finance background, plan for more hours, as the same source suggests. The study-time calculator checks a window against the hours your week really leaves, with a buffer for weeks that go wrong, and the Part I study planner turns the window into weekly targets for the four topic areas.

What to do, and by when: a plan for the May 2027 window

The same steps work for August and November; swap in the dates from the table.

  1. Now: check your weekly hours and start studying. Get a calculator from GARP's list and use it from the first week (see which calculators are allowed).
  2. 1 December 2026 – 31 January 2027 (check the official website): early registration, at US$600 (check the official website) for Part I, plus the enrolment fee if this is your first registration.
  3. 1 February – 31 March 2027 (check the official website): standard registration, at US$800 (check the official website).
  4. By 23 April 2027 (check the official website): book your appointment. Choose a day in the window and a test centre you can reach calmly.
  5. The last four weeks: full timed practice at exam pace – the exam pace calculator gives the minutes per question.
  6. 8–13 May 2027 (check the official website): the exam window.
  7. Afterwards: results are released within eight weeks after the exam window closes (check the official website).

What if you need more time?

Deferring one registration costs US$250 (check the official website). It is a safety net, not a plan: check GARP's deferral rules and deadline before you count on it, and choose the window with the weeks table in mind from the start. If you pass Part I and plan Part II, its fees are in the table above.

Which date mistakes are common?

  • Missing the early period. For May 2027 it runs 1 December 2026 – 31 January 2027 (check the official website); after that, Part I costs US$800 (check the official website).
  • Registering but not scheduling. Book your appointment by the last day to schedule for your window.
  • Budgeting the enrolment fee for every attempt. It is paid once, with your first Part I registration.
  • Treating a deferral as free. It costs US$250 (check the official website).
  • Choosing the earliest window by default. Pick the one your weeks support.

What this means for you

Decide on a window from the hours you really have, register in its early period, book your appointment straight away and put the date into a plan. Our FRM® Exam Part I course gives you practice questions with worked explanations; it complements GARP's own material and does not replace it.
